ICON RESIN INFILTRATION

WHAT'S ICON RESIN INFILTRATION?

ICON resin infiltration is a minimally invasive treatment option for visible white (sometimes yellow and brown) spots on the enamel of your child’s permanent dentition. This technique removes or blends the white areas to match the shade of the remaining tooth. It’s an ideal treatment option for improving the appearance of your child’s smile and boosting their self-confidence.

What Causes White Lesions on the Enamel?

These white lesions may be caused by enamel demineralization, most often associated with post-orthodontic treatment. They may also be a result of congenital disabilities of the enamel, such as molar incisal hypomineralization.

Can My Child Get ICON Resin Infiltration?

To be considered for ICON resin infiltration, your child’s teeth must be healthy and free of decay. The white spots must also be small and localized to the outer part of the enamel. Other treatment options, such as crowns or veneers, may be more appropriate if the white spot lesions are large or widespread.

What to Expect During Treatment

During an ICON resin infiltration treatment, we will first clean your child’s teeth and remove plaque or tartar buildup. Once their teeth are clean, we’ll examine the white spots to determine if they’re suitable for ICON resin infiltration treatment.

If we decide this is the best course of action, we’ll apply a specialized acid etchant, followed by unfilled resin to the white spot lesions and then harden it with a special light. Once this is complete, we’ll trim away excess material and polish the tooth to give it a natural appearance
