When a dental emergency strikes, you need to know that you have a dental care provider there to give you the treatment you need. You need to know what you can do to mitigate the problem until you arrive at a specialist's facility.
Kids Dental Care
offers dental emergency care for children of all ages. We help to educate both kids and parents what constitutes as a dental emergency and what you may be able to do to help yourself until we can provide immediate help.
Though dental pain can often be extremely uncomfortable, not every situation necessarily needs immediate attention to recover from. However, if you find yourself in any of these situations, you should take immediate action and call your dentist:
⦁ A Tooth Has Been Knocked Out
If your child experiences some type of impact that prematurely knocks out a tooth, it can cause damage to the nerves and blood vessels in the jaw. If we can quickly put the tooth back in place, we may be able to salvage it. You should do your best to keep the tooth wet and place it safely into the socket until you arrive.
⦁ Cracked/Broken Tooth
If a tooth doesn't get knocked out, it may be vulnerable to a crack or break. What's particularly problematic is the chance of a fracture that reaches the root. You should utilize some sort of topical oral pain reliever and apply gauze to soak up any bleeding. Once you arrive at the dentist, they can determine the best course of action based on the nature of the fracture.
⦁ Loose Tooth at Risk of Falling Out
In the event that a decaying tooth is suddenly loose and at risk of falling out, your dentist may be able to save it without performing any complicated procedures. If you make an emergency appointment, they may be able to stabilize it so long as it is still attached. It's okay to utilize over-the-counter medications to mitigate the associated pain.
Similarly, if you experience a filling falling out of your tooth, it's a sign that there is serious decay happening underneath. It's possible for a dentist to sterilize the area and reattach the filling to prevent further damage.
If you're ever unsure of whether or not what you or your child is experiencing classifies as a dental emergency, it's always best to err on the side of caution. If treatment can wait, a dental professional will let you know and advise you on the best way to treat your symptoms and mitigate your pain.
When your child is experiencing a dental emergency, don't hesitate to take action. Be sure to give Kids Dental Care
a call at the first sign of trouble, and a dental professional will ensure that they get the care that they need.
